About me

My interest in art came at a very early age with the ability to doodle and etch drawings at any convenient time. This progressed through many phases including large abstract canvas paintings, like the "Four Seasons", by the time I left school.

After deciding on a career in Nutrition, and having accepted a place at University to read this topic, a year in New Zealand playing and coaching cricket, working in a school and nannying gave me time to reflect. That was when I decided to read Art and Reading University accepted my application. I graduated in July 2012 with a BA (Hons) after four years.

Those four years changed my art focus. While I continue to paint abstract canvases, and enjoying do so, my heart has moved to metal sculptures. It has been over two years now that I have been designing and making these sculptures, which have been principally animals like stags, foxes, rats and pigeons.

My art work concerns the relationship between humans and animals and how we live alongside animals in urban environments. The relationship between humans and animals in cities has become more distant. The advent of the motor car replacing the horse and factory farming methods have led to the loss of a direct connection with animals in cities, except for our pets, yet we live in close proximity to many wild animals such as foxes, squirrels, mice, rats and sometimes deer.

The Blacksmith trade has changed so much during the centuries, but has managed to adapt to different ages and demands, including technological changes. It is exciting to work with metal, being able to manipulate it by hand through fashioning the metal, heating, beating and shaping it into a functional object or a piece of art.

I am based in south west London and construct my sculptures at the Kew Bridge Steam Museum Forge, a place where several artists assemble to share their work and concepts and ultimately fulfil and execute those ideas.

My work is developing with new ideas and concepts. Animal and marine species wine racks are a concept that bring conflict together; the eating of the meat or fish with the compliment of wine.
